Help BB sleep o'nights

Can anyone help? I need a pyjama top, but not any pyjama top. I need one that is anti-fashion, one that meets my exact requirements. I will pay good money. You want proof of my willingness to spend? See my previous post under Healing Bubbles.

Neck depth is vital; typical V-necks ride up and saw at my neck. It’s got to be really deep. Nor do I wish to be garrotted in and around the armpit region, Big, big gussets. Long sleeves for winter. Long top-to-bottom since my umbilicus is not my most charming feature.

The successful applicant will be paid right royally and will be obsequiously publicised on this blog. I am prepared to accept any embroidered advertising. My plight is desperate.

I empathize about the search for comfortable night wear. Do you have an equivalent of 'Big and Tall' mens' clothing stores, they may have something like this?

I'll see what I can find this side of the Atlantic, BB. I'm betting Land's End will probably have what you need - or possibly an Amish clothing catalog. Will let you know what I find ASAP. Knit or woven material choice?

The Crow, please send links to an Amish clothing catalog even if they don't have pjs!

BB, I hope you won't mind that I respond to Julia here.

Julia, one of the best online sites for plain clothing, which also includes links for Amish and Mennonite clothing, is http://www.quakerjane.com, by a Quaker woman who chooses to dress plain rather than modern. I think you might enjoy her site for the information she provides, as well as the links to other sites.

Cotton, take the buttons off and voila!

Failing that, try some 'outdoor' shops for v-neck long sleeved thermal under vests. Light but warm.

HHB takes a bow and exits...

I admire a man manly enough to wear a pyjama top with a really deep V-neck.

All: Just off for a belated golden celebration. Will get back to you during the week.

Must it be PJs, BB?
It seems what you are looking for could well be accommodated by a roomy nightshirt.

Some years ago there was, I recall, a revival of the Victoria night shirt for men with or without the bobbled night cap. TWould this be a solution? Try the Amish catalogue. I haven't worn pyjamas for at least 40 years and so cannot otherwise be of help.

M-L: B&T not quite there.

The Crow: Mrs BB gets Lands End catalogues. Surely it's mainly for posers. Woven material is best; knit stuff ends up covered in little balls if you sleep in it.

QuakerJane: She advises me not to wear women's clothes because it's an abomination. I wasn't going to go, but not because of that.

HHB: It's three-quarters there but there's some defect I can't be sure of. Possibly the fabric.

RW (sZ): Simmer down, there. 13 in. doesn't even reveal the whole of my sternum.

Avus: There's something prattish about a nightshirt, although a sawn-off one would be acceptable.

Plutarch: I've always found that those who don't wear PJs are proud of the fact.

All: Deep necklines are hard to find

As they say in all the best property programmes - it's all about compromise - and your v neck depth request is a killer. It's like a sea view on a £100k budget - it ain't gonna happen.
I've sent you a separate email with the closest matches (To preserve your remaining mystery) - and I'm betting that you know where that cotton and needle purchased in Hyper U is - let the transformation begin.. (NB - even very good looking male models look a little silly in pyjamas..)

All: The garment that comes closest is: the Henley Nightshirt - 100% Soft Knit Cotton
Size : XXX-LARGE 54-56: LONG SLEEVE - NO NAVY (+6.00).COLOR : GREEN $38.90 which The Crow tracked down. It is a nightshirt but could be sawn down to size. Unfortunately the company is in Florida and the ordering system seems limited to the USA. I am presently in discussion. The Crow has kindly offered to buy it and despatch it herself but my experience in reimbursing foreign accounts is that unless the basic sum is sizeable the bank charges usually exceed what's already been spent. There is a system of vouchers (via Amazon I believe) which I have used, but let's see first what the vendor comes up with. Meanwhile, thank you all for your spirited and/or helpful comments.

The offer still holds, BB, should the company not accommodate your request.

I think I've heard about as much as I can cope with for the moment...

The Crow: You'll be pleased to know Lucy's agonies (see above) are at and end. The supplier's name was Wittmann Textiles and my reply came right from the top - Kathy Wittmann, no less! All that American get up and go though no doubt she believes Obama shouldn't have bailed out the banks and next time, even if she doesn't vote Republican, Jeb Bush will ensure the machines divert her X in that direction. Thank you for your efforts and your kind suggestion but it should be simpler this way. Before I trim the bottom off the night-shirt I will wear it just as it arrives for one night as a means of adding to my social standing in Herefordshire. I suspect that few of my neighbours will be wearing a Floridian night-short this winter. Given the neckline once the buttons are removed I will also be adding a frisson to Rouchswalwe's blogging.

The friçons is real! Isch hab' Dich lieb' BB! Please let Mrs. BB know that this is all platonic. Hurrah for sexy nightshirts!

There - you see? Not prattish at all - could even be dignified.
(All now needed is the bobble nightcap, an elegant candlestick holder and fluffy slippers)
